About David
David Shanahan is a highly accomplished Optometrist with twenty five years experience practicing Optometry in Ireland, England and Australia. His special interests are achieving precise, visual correction and reduction of visual stress to give the very best possible vision for his clients. He also has particular interest in slowing myopia in teenagers and treating dry eyes.
David completed his Fellowship studies in Optometry in Ireland. He has post-graduate qualifications in Ocular Therapeutics from the University of New South Wales and is therapeutically endorsed to prescribe and treat medical eye conditions. David is also an ophthalmic examiner for pilots, credentialed with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as an Ophthalmic Examiner for pilots in 2012.
His special area of interest is in solving unusual vision problems. This may involve people whose daily tasks include varying demanding visual requirements. For instance, Using twin or multiple computer screens, playing musical instruments with score sheets at various angles and hobbies such as shooting.
David also runs a myopia control clinic at his practice and fits specialised OrthoK contact lenses. He is also highly skilled in treating dry eye using “TearLab” testing, tear videography, BlephEx testing and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapy.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, windsurfing, cycling and running.
