Masahiro Maruyama’s handmade glasses are known for their unique, asymmetrical, hand-finished designs. The manufacturing process is extensive and precise with quality, taking up to a month to produce.

Made in Sabae City in the Fukui prefecture of Japan, where the history of eyewear manufacturing has evolved over 100 years, Masahiro Maruyama’s frames are crafted to bring each delicate asymmetrical detail to life. The end result is a product that computerised manufacturing cannot compete with.

A months-long process involves several steps to create a pair of titanium glasses, including making a mold, pressing, blazing, polishing, finishing, and assembling each individual part. Masahiro Maruyama’s glasses are made from pure titanium, which has lightweight properties but is immensely strong. The titanium requires advanced techniques to work with to ensure a high-quality result in the design of the glasses. Mazzucchelli’s acetate is used to construct plastic frames, skilled craftsmen hand-fill each piece to create a fit that is comfortable, with the result being an asymmetric design where the thickness of the material changes smoothly across the piece.
